Montmirey-la-Ville Castle
The castle was built at the end of the 18th century, from 1772 to 1780, by Claude François Xavier Bachelu. The entrance gate, classified as a Historic Monument, was forged in 1734 by Nicolas Chapuis, author of the gates of the Saint-Jacques Hospital in Besançon. The estate was sold in 1805 to the Chifflet family of learned jurists. Baron Henri Picot d’Aligny, in the years 1870-1875, gave the castle its current appearance by adding a floor and two pavilion wings to the main building. The round tower of Velleguindry, the only vestige of the original castle, is incorporated into the outbuildings. The castle, listed as MH, cannot be visited.
The park, designed by Brice Michel, a landscaper from Bison, is open free to visitors with a signposted walking circuit. Immense, the park offers discovery of lawns, stream, pond, groves, paths and remarkable trees: sequoia gigantea, thuja gigantea, 300-year-old oak, fastigated oak, Dutch aspen, Scots pine, Virginia tulip tree, Atlas cedars and from Lebanon…
