city of Pesmes
Built on its rock overlooking the Ognon, the medieval city unfolds its streets, squares, alleys and trajes punctuated with buildings and monuments steeped in a rich history. Here the architecture recounts the work of the winegrowers, the glory days of the Lordship and the town’s bourgeoisie, the epic tale of Comtoise metallurgy or the need to protect the County Gate… As you wander around, the visitor will recall Louis Gollut, the first Comtois historian, the Duke of Choiseul, Pierre Mathieu, historiographer of Henri IV, the forge masters, P. Henri Rey the Comtois sculptor, the Guichard brothers and the Bonnot gang or the Queen of Mohéli…
We approach Pesmes via the valley. At the end of the avenue of century-old plane trees, the fresco of the castle toothless by the Revolution, houses lined up at its feet, imposing ramparts burst open and are reflected in the rather calm waters of the river. The castle town offers
beautiful encounters with its majestic Grand’rue, the Loigerot or St. Hilaire gates, the rue des châteaux before discovering the grandeur of the St. Hilaire church which imposes, in this preserved setting, the power of its bell tower on the imperial.
Classified among “the most beautiful villages in France”, the Petite Cité de Caractère distinguished by the program of “favorite village of the French 2013” develops an undeniable tourist vocation. Beyond its hotel and culinary offerings, Pesmes also welcomes you to the pleasant and comfortable Colombière campsite.
It offers a great diversity of activities on the shore and on the water with an efficient fishing company and the dynamic Pasquier nautical base. The vitality of its associations and the wealth of cultural and convivial events advantageously complement this high-quality living environment.
Today, with these assets, Pesmes is proactively engaging in a development approach based on a geographical positioning between Comté and Burgundy which is now taking on a new dimension.
