Boulot Castle
The land and lordship of Boulot were acquired in 1683 by Claude-Alexandre Courlet (1647-1719), Viscount-Maïeur of Besançon and Advisor to the Parliament of Franche-Comté. His grandson, Alexandre-Joseph Courlet de Boulot (1715-1754), did not keep the old fortified house and had a pavilion built, resembling a folly, including a raised ground floor dominated by a high roof. Comtoise and decorated with armorial pediments surmounting the two main facades. The ensemble was completed at the request of Claude-François Courlet de Boulot (1723-1807), who entrusted its execution to the Comtois architect Claude-Damien Gardaire, famous for his statuary. The latter created in Boulot the two superb mascarons representing Diana and Apollo, adorning the two central openings on the ground floor of the building. This first campaign of work ended in 1763, attested by the rocaille cartouche inserted in the belt of the west facade. Théophile Courlet de Boulot (1766-1846), son of Claude-François, transformed the castle in 1827-1828 in accordance with his Palladian tastes brought back from emigration. He then added two floors to the building (the second forming an attic), all topped with a large terrace delimited by a sponge cake, with a pavilion with triangular pediments in its center. A four-sided roof came to replace the terrace in 1829, more in keeping with the local climate. The direct descendants of the lord of the place in the 17th century still own the castle, ISMH since 1994.
